Absinthe: Prosaic Bouts of Delirium

Author: Aurealia Nelson
First published by Holmes Publishing Group: 2002
ISBN: n/a

An anthology of poetry and prose, mostly written by Nelson but some pieces by other contributors.

Our review:

Not a great deal on absinthe in this book, but the title and drink reflects the volume’s focus on moods and the imagination, and the extent of free will in our lives. It’s an interesting and embracing concept for a poet to include other contributors in a volume of her work, and one that suits her self-proclaimed ultimate aim “for us to achieve our own peace – whatever and wherever that may be.” So while the work is of varying quality, that seems to be the point. A thought-provoking volume.

LOVE IN THE TIME OF ANTHRAX

Shifting gazes-
The madness reaches
Into the depths of me
I remain, half eaten
And destroyed
By your senseless sentiments
And gored into the flesh
By this rotten disease
That gnaws away
Slowly
Corrupting
And
Crystallizing
My thoughts with
Your
Warmness
And the scent
Of your cigarettes
Which I now taste
On my tongue.
